Released only a few weeks ago, State of Decay 2 from Microsoft Game Publishing and Undead Labs was marred by technical issues at launch. From a spotty frame-rate, weird bugs and glitches, and net-code that would tank performance the more players you decide to team-up with. And yet despite all that we still found it to be quite a lot of fun, with a solid post-apocalyptic setting, survival mechanics, and focus on building up a community.

Stating that it was "gruesome and fun zombie-apocalypse survival, but also bug-ridden and poorly optimised". And so over the weekend State of Decay 2 got a sizable 20GB patch that aims to rectify an number of key performance issues including:

  • Increased stability
  • Improved networking interactions for clients
  • Improved networked vehicle interactions
  • Elimination of Out Of Memory crashes

Some of the specific bug fixes include removing the annoying self-shadow effect when using torches in multiplayer, the white line that looks like a v-sync issue when driving at night, and collision spots that would result in vehicles getting stuck.

20 GB is incredible for a patch that doesn't include extra content or texture packs!

Will see how this patch pans out and if it's fixed well enough I may jump in and buy the game, the concept sounds awesome!
