In 4K Ultra High Definition too, with all content both single and multiplayer from the late '90s RTS classic and the Brood War expansion. When it comes to HD remasters for classic Blizzard games StarCraft has been rumoured to be in the works for a while now, with the existence of it popping up prior to BlizzCon last year as a rumour. One that's finally come true! StarCraft: Remastered is expected to be released sometime this winter.
“StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard’s DNA—its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it’s been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With StarCraft: Remastered, we’re modernising the original game’s visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond.”
The remastered graphics and audio will bring a modern look and feel to the timeless classic, with widescreen UHD support for up to 4K resolution. Other updates will include new illustrations to enhance storytelling in the StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War campaign missions; advanced matchmaking; full connectivity to Blizzard’s gaming network for social features and updates; cloud saving for campaign progress, custom maps, replays, and keybinds; support for eight new languages in addition to the original five; and more. While these improvements will bring StarCraft to the modern era, gameplay and balance have been precisely preserved, for an experience that will feel identical to veteran players.
It certainly sounds like a remaster done right, and we'll be sure to post a first-look of it in action when that becomes available.

Replays from 1.16 BW will work in SCRM because the code is that similar, weird glitches that have informed and directed the meta will persist too. Pretty rad.
A gameplay comparison image too.

Also just to clarify: Starcraft with Broodwar will be free to download (its pulled from the blizzard store now) but the HD super duper Update for it will cost money. Not sure how much it will cost but I imagine it will probably be more expensive that it should be, knowing Blizzard's love of milking people.
