It seems that most people have written off the Wii U, at least from a hardcore gaming perspective. Most people are looking to Nintendo's upcoming E3 presentation, where its next console, the NX, will be revealed. And most likely be completely different to anything you could probably imagine. But there's life in the Wii U yet, with Star Fox Zero due for release this Saturday on April 23.
Sure, it may not be a system seller, but if you're a fan of the Star Fox series (or the weirdly titled Australian versions Star Wing and Lylat Wars) then Star Fox Zero looks like a return to form for the on-rails space opera. Second screen aside, the fluid action, over the top voice acting, and barrel rolls are all classic Star Fox.
Which this hefty four-minute trailer more than demonstrates.
I'm a big fan of Star Fox, but that walker mode on the Arwing looks so dumb it's almost enough to put me off buying the game. It looks seriously dumb. Why is it even needed? Isn't that what the Landmaster was for?
I just don't see it as a problem. The series has always had a "Saturday morning cartoon" feel to it, so things like odd vehicle designs and cheesy dialogue don't bother me.
Anyone been playing it? I'm about 2/3 of the way through the single player campaign, it's good but I am struggling to get the hang of playing on two screens at once with this one. Meaning flying around watching the TV (3rd person view) then using the Wii tablet for precision shots (1st person c***pit view). I find it a little disorientating switching back and forth in the middle of combat. Might just take a bit more time to get the hang of it but it feels like they've over-complicated the control system for the sake of tablet integration.

Feeling conflicted about this.
