Early this morning Nintendo held a new Direct that focused on the upcoming multiplayer Switch titles Splatoon 2 and ARMS. Plus, a few surprise announcements too. More on those in a bit. First off, both game finally have solid release dates with Splatoon 2 expected to drop July 21 and ARMS on June 16. Next up, a new co-op horde mode was revealed for Splatoon 2, with ARMS specifically shown off as a deep fighter with competitive potential.

Here's a look at Splatoon 2's co-op mode, Salmon Run, where you and a group of friends team-up to fend off a horde of agitated and not so friendly fish.

And here's an in-depth look at ARMS via a somewhat simple looking in-game commentator. In that he looks like he was whipped up in an afternoon. Thankfully though ARMS itself looks a lot more involved, and complex too thanks to the sheer number of characters, augmentations, and arms on offer. After going hands-on with an earlier version of the game we're quietly expecting that this will become a huge hit for the Switch. Its fun, deep, original, and has definite esports potential. Think Punch-Out meets Super Smash Bros., by the way of Virtua On.
