For the second time in a row E3 is set to be a
PlayStation-free event. Well, officially at least with Sony telling GamesIndustry.biz, "After thorough evaluation SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment) has decided not to participate in E3 2020". Which means the rumoured and dedicated
PlayStation 5 reveal event will be Sony's big PS5 blowout. At least initially.
Some sources are citing that this reveal could occur as early as next month. Although a rather detail-free spokesperson statement, it seems clear that Sony is happy to attend other community or industry events - but not E3.
"We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year. We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content."
A fan and community focus looks to be what Sony is planning for its PlayStation 5 blitz this year - and seems to be in line with EA's separation from E3 in recent years. No doubt we can expect to see Sony at several event throughout the year in the lead-up to the PlayStation 5's launch.
