Speaking to
Computer & Video Games at Gamescom this week, PlayStation EU boss Jim Ryan said that Sony is not chasing third-party exclusives. This comes hot off the heels of the controversy surrounding Rise of the Tomb Raider, which ic currently set as a one year exclusive title for Xbox.
"Well, you know, we've got a very large and very powerful network of studios on our own, all of whom are working on games that will be fully exclusive to PlayStation, and we feel that this on top of partnering with third parties where it makes sense," he said. "I think the partnership we have with Activision on Destiny is a good example of where it makes really good sense for them, it makes good sense for us and it benefits our consumers--when you complement those two things we think that gives us a pretty complete position in the market."
"So do we feel the need to go out and buy outright exclusivity? Probably not," he added. "You saw [at Sony's Gamescom press conference] that before the media briefing we showed updated videos of games that we had revealed at E3. That's because we wanted to keep the show itself full of new, fresh things. We think that gave us a good, strong, convincing portfolio of exclusive stuff and we're happy with that."
Rise of the Tomb Raider's Xbox (Xbox One, Xbox 360) exclusivity has irritated and upset fans who want more platform options when the game is released. Even if the game is only exclusive for one year, that's a long wait for someone who owns a PC or a PlayStation 4 and does not own an Xbox console.

"We don't chase exclusives, we just buy them and pretend otherwise"
Sony helps fund a game and expects to own the IP, Microsoft helps fund a game and doesn't expect the IP. Yet Microsoft are the "evil" ones here? LOL
