How many? Well that would be 5.7 million. Which puts the console at about 35.9 million units sold globally as of January 3, 2016. Which one can assume, correctly too, is a lot. After all we're talking about millions of consoles, a number which is hard to fathom. In terms of size we're talking about quite a few Olympic-sized swimming pools full of PlayStation 4 systems. If they were put side-by-side perhaps they'd wrap around the entire planet. Or if stacked on top of each other, reach the moon. If only Sony announced its sales figures with practical examples like this.

To quote Sony president and global CEO, Andrew House,
We are absolutely delighted that so many customers have selected PS4 as the best place to play throughout this holiday season and that the PS4 community is growing more than ever.

Which, in all fairness, tends to happen when you sell more of a thing. But, it goes without saying that the PlayStation 4 has been a resounding success for Sony, and continues to sell in numbers worthy of a press-release. And with a fantastic line-up of games coming in 2016, including the likes of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, we should be hearing a lot more about PlayStation 4 sales as the year goes on.

What about Xbox One holiday sales. What were they like? You know, so we could compare the two. After all the console wars, much like the drug wars, have been going on since the Reagan Administration. Well, it's kind of hard (see: impossible) to do that now that Microsoft has opted out of the "reporting sales figures game". Instead, we get spectacularly meaningless bits of information like, "Xbox gamers earned over 4 billion achievements and racked up a total Gamerscore of over 77 billion in 2015." Which, should please its shareholders. Or not.

I'd like to know if you combined the weight of all PS4 consoles sold, how many dinosaurs would that equal?

Selling nearly 36 million consoles should unlock some sort of achievement.
