Sony's next-gen PlayStation VR2 has a launch date of February 22, 2023, and a price point of $879.95 AUD ($549.99 USD). A new report over at Bloomberg citing sources claims that Sony has "halved its forecast for shipments of the PSVR2", telling suppliers that display panel orders will be reduced due to "disappointing" pre-orders.

PSVR 2 is in a bit of a weird spot, even though there are a lot of games coming, marketing for the next-gen VR tech has been a little light. Also, VR hasn't quite taken off in the way some have expected, and in terms of VR games, it seems there's a general lack of interest when compared to traditional games like Sony's own God of War Ragnarok. So it kind of makes sense that the hype surrounding PSVR 2 isn't all that big.

But, in a statement given to GamesIndustry.biz Sony outright refutes the claims. Saying that it has "not cut PlayStation VR2 production numbers," and that it's "seeing enthusiasm from PlayStation fans for the upcoming launch, which includes more than 30 titles such as Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Call of the Mountain, and Resident Evil Village."

That said, with the price-point higher than the already costly PlayStation 5 console, PSVR 2 is going to be a tough sell. Even if it's specs and hardware make it sound like a major leap forward for console VR gaming.
