Of course, this doesn't mean we'll ever see something like
God of War appear on
Xbox or
Nintendo Switch anytime soon. Or ever. But in a recent interview
with Bloomberg,
Sony Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden has said that
PlayStation exclusives "may need to lean into a wider installed base".
Which probably means PC, ala what Microsoft is doing with Xbox exclusives - in that all future Xbox Game Studios titles will arrive on console and PC. In response to the question Layden confirms that the PlayStation platform remains the priority, but there is room to expand.
"We must support the PlayStation platform — that is nonnegotiable. That said, you will see in the future some titles coming out of my collection of studios which may need to lean into a wider installed base."
As to what titles might end up elsewhere, perhaps this would be limited to more multiplayer offerings - or games as a service. As opposed to the big budget single-player titles that have defined the PlayStation 4. Games like the aforementioned God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted, The Last of Us, and others.
Talking about Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios specifically, this does mean the big players - including Media Molecule, Polyphony Digital, Guerrilla Games, SIE London Studio, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, and Sucker Punch. And the
newly acquired Insomniac Games. From that list we wouldn't be surprised to see something like Dreams and its creative suite come to PC, or even Gran Turismo - which has a thriving esports component.
