Sony has reported record revenues for its latest quarter (via Eurogamer), thanks to brisk PlayStation 4 sales and profits from game-related network services, including a huge spike in PlayStation Plus membership sales.

Sony's Game and Network Services division enjoyed sales of $2.55 billion for the three-month period that ended on June 30th, 2014, a 95.7 percent increase when compared to the same period a year ago. All told, the games division made a profit of $43 million, compared to a $159 million loss in the same period a year ago.

Sony did not give specific numbers on the PlayStation 4, instead reporting that combined PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 shipments (not sales) came in at around 3.4 million during the quarter. Sony also counted PlayStation Vita, PSP, and PlayStation TV together during the quarter. All together 750,000 units were shipped during the quarter.

Sony also said that 85 million games were sold during the quarter, an impressive feat a company who was previously struggling with large losses.

Sony as a whole saw sales of $17.92 billion, an increase of 5.8 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Profits increased to $268 million, attributed mostly to the games division and the sale of real estate in the U.S. and Japan.
