Code-named Spartacus, the new subscription service from Sony is set to roll-out next year and offer players a library of new and classic games to play ala Xbox Game Pass. According to a
new report by Bloomberg this blend of PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus will be made available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
As they currently stand PlayStation Plus serves as Sony's online service with monthly freebies, with PlayStation Now offering up games to stream or download. According to the report the PlayStation Plus naming will remain, with different tiers to be offered. The first being PS Plus as it is, with the second tier offering PS4 games and PS5 games sometime in the future. A third tier is also planned that will include access to PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games and things like cloud streaming.
With the success of Xbox Game Pass, which is closing in on 20 million subscribers, no doubt this a logical move for Sony to make. It'll be interesting to see what its stance will be in relation to first-party games and exclusivity. Currently all Xbox Game Studios titles are released across PC and console and made available as a part of Xbox Game Pass. It's one of the main reasons that the service has garnered the reputation that it has, where it's viewed as a platform as opposed to a catalogue.
