A new developer diary for Sony Online Entertainment's forthcoming Everquest Next Landmark has been published, and features SOE devs demonstrating some of the more advanced techniques being made available to players in the environment-building sandbox title.
Distinct from the more traditional MMO Everquest Next, instead of killing monsters Everquest Next Landmark instead focuses on Minecraft-like resource-gathering and construction, with player-made creations built in Landmark potentially being used to populate and expand regular Everquest Next.
In the latest video UI designer Jake Sones and Associate Producer Eric Smith walk us through several tools for advanced building, showing how to create arches, duplicate and mirror complex sections and work with corners.
Both Everquest Next and Everquest Next Landmark are expected to launch on PC and PS4 in 2014.
Holy s***, that's actually pretty damn impressive from a technical angle, particularly the dynamic texturing. I wonder how much data is necessary to transfer to describe a customised area, seems really high density.
Very happy they are not wheeling out old EQ devs (having done work as a guide, they were a bunch of ignorant fools ... even the ones that moved from iD).
But you cats needs to be a touch more investigative.
Everquest Next is in my opinion a free "minecraft" game for producing content for Landmark.
