Crytek and EA have today released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming sandbox alien shooter Crysis 3. While not showing off much, we do get a glimpse of the Nanodome that has encased New York City, as well as the Composite Bow that Prophet will be using among other weaponry.
Set in 2047, Prophet is on a revenge mission after uncovering the truth behind Cell Corporation’s motives for building the quarantined Nanodomes. The citizens were told that the giant citywide structures were resurrected to protect the population and to cleanse these metropolises of the remnants of Ceph forces. In reality, the Nanodomes are CELL’s covert attempt at a land and technology grab in their quest for global domination. With Alien Ceph lurking around every corner and human enemies on the attack, nobody is safe in the path of vengeance. Everyone is a target in Prophet’s quest for retribution.
You can check out the trailer below (click here for HD) for the 14 seconds of teasing, however EA has stated that a full trailer will be released next week so stay tuned for more.

Crysis 3 is set for a 2013 release date on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Dear pc games

I love pc gaming and have been a huge fan for a long time. However console gaming is more popular because the common person does not have the time or money to spend on updating their pc to current gaming specs and so consoles offer them a way for games to be available to the masses and provide a level of detail in game that many could not achieve in their pc.

Therefore stop whining it isn't going to change anything

The money thing is a cop out. You're paying more for games. Paying for subscriptions to xbox live ect.

PC is more expensive upfront but long term is cheaper. If you put the fact most people need a PC in conjunction with a console. It more just shows PC gaming is a cheaper option.

Anyway,

With Crysis 3. I hope that since Crysis 2, they got Crysis 1 working on consoles in Cryengine 3. Maybe that means we can expect bigger environments ect, in Crysis 3.

The people at Crytek did say they way they handled the PC release last time was a mistake. With more time to work on the engine, hopefully they don't make a mistake this time.

Please STFU about the PC vs console debate. You're not going to suddenly settle the argument that has been going on for decades.

^not sure who this is for but the point i was making is consoles are where the money is for the publishers, there's too many pirates in pc that's why we are getting left out.
and to solve the console vs pc debate, it suddenly dawned on me, the answer is 42

Actually pirating statistics have never been set in stone, nor are they as high as they use to be. With the likes of Steam, GoG and Origin among others, PC pirating has dropped heaps compared to previous years compared to console pirating. Have a look on any PirateBay or NZB site and you'll find consoles get new releases almost a month in advance compared to PC who sometimes don't even receive cracks/releases until a few days/week after.

Today's generation of consoles are most likely pulling in more games and development due to how easy it is for development. Everything is the same compared to PC with a million and one configurations, and in order to really nail down a PC game, you have to consider every possibility.

Though we are seeing more PC development as developers realise more of a market is appearing thanks to Steam and the likes. They feel it is more safe now with a light DRM option that entices people to spend even if they didn't really want to.

Using a bow and arrow to kill someone in the year 2047 is about as efficient as sending someone back in time to be killed.

I saw a documentary where I guy took down a helicopter with a bow and arrow. It was called Rambo II.

There's plenty of ways to justify the weapon. As in you're trying to be stealth and silent. Which has been a big part of the Crysis series.

Thanks for that Captain Obvious. My point is we had weapons even in the 1990s that were silenced, very accurate and with long-enough range that easily made bow and arrows obsolete.

So now Prophet is sitting there going: "hmm, I'll just drop my silenced projectile and energy weapons made in the 2040s (an age when we also have other high-tech stuff like a f*****g nanosuit), and yeah I'll just go with the bow and arrow for a bit ..."

Totally plausible ...

But how much more bad arse is a bow and arrow though? I think your all missing that part of it. Sure a sniper rifle is faster and simpler to use but you feel like such a boss when you do the same thing only with an arrow to the eye.

on the bows being the silent attack option... i bet in the game the bow makes a huge "twung!" sound :p like how in any movie when someone draws a sword there is a loud "sching!" sound. it's just what people expect.

Bow and arrows just have ridiculous stopping power.
I've never heard anyone in games complaining about how their adventuring career was cut short because they took a bullet in the knee.

What if he has no more projectile weapons to use? Or out of ammo ect.

Also you may not be aware, but these games generally have many weapons you can use. So it seems unlikely it'll be the only weapon available.

From the EA site.

"Assess, Adapt, and Attack – Crysis’s highly-acclaimed sandbox gameplay is back with more open levels to let players choose their path and approach. Your upgraded Nanosuit allows brute force or stealth, always giving you more than one option.

The Biggest and Most Explosive Arsenal in Franchise History – In addition to giving you an arsenal of human firearms, Crysis 3 lets you scavenge alien weapons and deploy an all-new signature bow"

So there you go parabol, the bow and arrow won't be your only weapon.

Now it's interesting it refers to "Crysis’s highly-acclaimed sandbox gameplay is back." So at least from what they're saying, it'll be more in line with the first environment size wise.

I hope the flying aliens are back.

^not sure who this is for but the point i was making is consoles are where the money is for the publishers, there's too many pirates in pc that's why we are getting left out. and to solve the console vs pc debate, it suddenly dawned on me, the answer is 42

The reason for PC pirates is because we (PC users) pay $100 for a game that looks completely s***house, and has console-ified controls and physics. PC games should be half the price of console games because they're only using half the potential of the PC they're running on. Console users should still pay full price as punishment for creating this situation in the first place.

^ your first argument I shot down (harr harr) by pointing out of the obviousness of there being more efficient and more silent weapons at your disposal especially in the 2040s.
What if he has no more projectile weapons to use? Or out of ammo ect.

Your second argument implies that weapons manufacturers in the 2040s continue to create bows and arrows in-case a soldier's high-tech weapons run "out of ammo ect.". That's quite amusing.
So there you go parabol, the bow and arrow won't be your only weapon.

Your third argument is a strawman, as I never made such that claim.

Why wouldn't they create bows and arrows? That's pretty damn stupid to assume they wouldn't. It's 2012 and already we have no real need for them, yet they continue to be made for hobbies, olympics, hunters who just like bows & s***, and people who think they're robin hood.

You're reading too much into what they thought was a cool image.

From the official site
If you’re going to go toe to toe with an alien menace you’ll need some serious hardware. While a hurricane minigun might make you the biggest badass on Earth, an alien armada isn’t going to think twice about ripping you apart atom from atom. If you’re going to last long in the field you’re going to need to procure some competitive armament from your enemies. Of course, that’s assuming that you can find something that comes with an instruction manual not in an alien tongue.

There's pictures from the game of Prophet with guns. You're just reading too much into it.

When you saw the cover of Black Ops with a guy holding two handguns. Did you sit there complaining about how in war as a soldier you'd use something more. Of course not. It's just being picky for the sake of being nit picky.

At this stage we have no real clue as to what the situation will be in the Crysis Universe in 2040. Maybe the worlds postapocolypic or some crap.

After breaking my right hand i have a slight permanent disability which leads to weird things with my typing.

There's slightly restricted movement with my little finger and fourth finger which hasn't quite been remapped to my brain yet. So hitting the wrong keys with these fingers is frequent. In this case a full stop instead of a comma.

As it's an internet post, i am not in the habit of proof reading and correcting.

How do you explain your capital afterwards?

Was that unintentional too? It's hugely unlikely that you could have slipped and mashed two buttons at once especially straight after a coincidental full stop.

Dot, Space, Shift + the next letter are like right next to each other. Perfectly plausable they were pressed in sequence.

Did you ever do the tank-nuke spawning in Crysis? Extremely satisfying.

Auto correct.

It's actually more to do with how so much of typing has to do with muscle memory. It's like have you ever typed a different world than what you mean? Not misspelled but typed a different word or a similar word ect.

You don't sit there and spell out every letter or every world as you type. It just happens. You just type. Do you think about every time you press the space bar or does it just happen?

Also when you type there's a strong element of visual information which is being processed by your subconsciousness which goes to the heart of the automatic nature of it. So when you have something that happens which results in half your hand being broken. Having surgeries, pins and wires. That muscle memory doesn't work properly. The subconscious cues which make this automatic behavior happen then also get thrown off.

So I can accidentally put a full stop instead of a comma with out realising. However while I didn't realise, the subconscious that guides this automatic behavior picks up on it and then does the usual next thing by making the next letter a capital. Through pressing shift.

Guys, the more publishers ignore PC gamers the more the PC gaming market opportunity increases. Gaming is still a young industry with many sub-genres and market segments still evolving as the demographic of gamers becomes more diverse. Just ride it out. There'll always be great games around on PC.

I think the biggest issue is consoles are still too limited. While there'll always be a gap, the basic level of console is too far below PCs. I think while PCs will always do more. There will be a point where in terms of games and environments, player sizes ect of what is practicle and usable. If they can meet. Then the issue will go away.

As it is now, what PC games could do 10 years ago consoles can't do. Look at Battlefield. Year BF3 looks great, there's all sorts of new features. Still the consoles can't do a 64 player MP. This then negatively effects PC. If consoles could do that, it's not going to all of a sudden be, PCs want 128 players. There are practical workable limits to games.

PCs can always do more. However there will be a point when it will mainly come down to graphics. Which a lot of people mistake as the issue today. When it's so much more.

I also do also think when it comes to graphics, there will be a point where there's diminishing returns in making games look better and better. Consoles need to approach that point.
