After a gruelling semi-finals and a nail biting finals showcase this weekend gone, the North American team Cognitive Prime has come out with first place and a whopping US$1.3m in the Smite 2015 World Championship event in Atlanta, Georgia.

AusGamers was on scene to cover the event alongside an enormous turn out for developer Hi-Rez's very first annual championship event. The match saw other grand finalist Titan trailing behind at 2-0, before they miraculously won the third game and fourth game before pushing into a tie-breaking fifth game.

While Europe's Titan team did lose the championship they still took away a nice cash prize of US$522,000 for second place, with Cognitive Red and SK Gaming winning US$391,839 and US$261,226 in third and fourth place, respectively. The four teams knocked out during the first two days also each received US$32,653.

The tournament saw eight teams from around the world competing for the breath-taking trophy and prize pool, spanning three days at the packed auditorium of Atlanta's Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Hi-Rez noted that more than a million unique viewers checked into the Twitch stream during the weekend, making it the top viewed channel on the service. If that isn't enough evidence that eSports is definitely a real thing than I don't know what will be.

Smite's second season will be commencing soon, and will be bringing alongside various game changes a brand-new Conquest map that will feature various graphical and gameplay changes.
