Because Blizzard has announced the release date for its upcoming multiplayer shooter Overwatch! And that date is May 24 for both the console and PC release. Not only that but come May 5-9 Blizzard will be conducting an Open Beta for the game across all platforms, giving everyone the opportunity to play as any of the staggering (staggeringly awesome that is) 21 heroes on offer in a select number of maps and modes. And hey, if you pre-order you'll get in on the beta action a few days early.
For those of you who weren't able to get in on the Closed Beta for Overwatch, you'll definitely be in for a treat come May. Overwatch takes the core frantic fun of something like Team Fortress and dials it all up to eleven with personality, charm, and that Blizzard polish we've all come to expect. And it works well even in its current PC-only state using either a controller or mouse/keyboard as the input device. Sacrilege sure, but based on the current status of the game there's no reason why it should look and feel the same across all platforms.
“Overwatch is a team shooter for everyone, with deep, cooperative gameplay, fast and fun competitive action, and a diverse range of larger-than-life heroes,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We think PC and console players everywhere will have a great time in the game, and we’re excited to give everyone a chance to try Overwatch out for themselves ahead of its May 24 launch.”
Prediction: This will be the next game with huge money in tournaments. Hard to believe there was a DOTA2 tounament that gave out $18m last year though.
I share the same prediction. I'm excited to see some of the top players from various competitive FPS come head to head in a new big polished pro scene. GO THE QUAKERS!! :D
