Rumours have been around for a while regarding The Creative Assembly working on an Alien title, and today SEGA officially revealed this to be true, unveiling an announcement trailer and new assets for Alien: Isolation -- a first-person survival-horror experience.
On a decommissioned trading station in the fringes of space, fear and panic have gripped the inhabitants. Players find themselves in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger as an unpredictable, ruthless Xenomorph is stalking and killing deep in the shadows. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive.
The game looks to be capturing the horror-thriller component of the first film, rather than Cameron's Aliens, as so many other games have -- serving up a fresh-looking single-player horror experience.

"In Alien: Isolation, we have taken the series back to the roots of Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie, the original survival-horror,” said Alistair Hope, Creative Lead at Creative Assembly via press release. “Our Alien is a truly terrifying creature, as intelligent as he is hostile, relentless, brutal and unstoppable. This is the Alien game fans of the series have always wanted.”

The game is due out in "late 2014" on PC, PS4 and Xbox One as well as PS3 and Xbox 360. Watch the announcement trailer embedded below.

I'm afraid if I play this I'll have nightmares about Aliens again and be too afraid to even walk in the dark...

That looks pretty damn cool. Alien games always seem to fall short, but horror/survival seems like a better angle than action.

Creative Assembly are pretty unproven outside of Total War, so I'm remaining cautiously optimistic. Viking: Battle for Asgard wasn't particularly memorable. Will be nice if they can establish themselves as more than just a PC RTS house.

Can't be as bad as Colonial Marines...

Nothing can be as bad as Colonial Marines, ever. I'm really hoping they look at what makes Outlast and Amnesia scary, with its haunting atmospheric environments and put that into Alien: Isolation.

But does CA really need to establish themselves outside of the Total War series? I mean, it's a series with so much depth and awesomeness they don't really need to branch out much do they?

I can never help but to get nipple stiffeningly excited about aliens games. As much hate as there was with colonial marines, I still managed to get 13hrs from a single lan party on pc with 3 mates. Was enjoyable but nowhere near as polished as it should have been. Fingers crossed for this one

It looks amazing from the videos, the trailer really sells it well too. I'll be interested to see what reviewers think of it when it's released.

Dear SEGA,

Please don't f*** CA over like you seem to have with Rebellion when they released AVP2010.

I appreciate that games cost money to make, but games can be bettered by expansions and additional content (read: See what you did with COH 2 with map packs? that's a good example of how to 'add'; on the flip side, see what you did with COH 2 with 'vehicle skins' and 'faceplates'? Less of that crap please.)

Thank you,
Everyone who played and LOVED AVP2010 (and who would still like to see some more map packs and co-op levels)
