And here we are. Nintendo Switch! Coming March 2017! An all new console from Nintendo that yep, is a tablet hybrid thing that docks next to a TV or can be taken on the go. And the controller thingies slide out and click together real cool-like. Or, if you have two you can have portable four-player Mario Kart action. Or even, play Skyrim on a plane!

Check it out.

We'll have more tomorrow!

Wow the rumours were pretty much spot on. I'm keen. Was surprised to see Skyrim thats for sure. I'm a little worried that the screen will get scratched up like crazy in that dock though... Man I hate putting screen protectors on... never get it perfect.

So it's a s*** laptop with a controller and exclusive titles? Am I missing something?

I like the portability part, but it raises questions about how powerful it is, and what sort of battery life it will have. Like, could I play it for more than a few hours on a longhaul flight?

New Mario though -- sweet!

It frustrates and annoys me that the Zelda title that helped me to justify buying a Wii U is now being used to showcase this thing.

More than a little bit.

This x 100. How underpowered is this piece of s*** going to be?

They did this with twilight princess, except they released for both NGC and Wii. One of the reasons I didn't purchase a Wii U because I knew they were going to do this s***.

Announcing support is bulls*** PR speak for "we might make a game but will probably pull out later on when we realise this console is too under powered to do anything".

This was designed by the girl from the taco ad.

We need a new console and a new portable.

Well Nintendo does do things a bit different. It's interesting but not for me. I wonder how many LCD/Screens are going to get broken? I hope the thing is easy to open up and replace.

Re: Zelda, what's the problem?

They've already said that it will be the same on both systems, and given the fact that the switch is probably not very powerful I'd say that's probably pretty accurate. You'll be getting the same game on either system.

Frankly, we're lucky to be getting anything at all on the WiiU right now. It's a dead system, and we're getting a Zelda game on it. Be happy!

Do you have Stockholm syndrome? The problem with this shabadooping is these bloops promise a new zelda on the console (Wii U, in my case the GC) and then delay delay. They delay it one last time for the new console. We could all be enjoying the new zelda title right now. They're making you suffer to push their new gimmicky console you dumbass

They're not releasing it on both because they feel pitty on you (if they did, they would have released it on WiiU then later for the Switch), they want to maximise.

Yeah, they even used a Zelda demo to show off the Wii U before the console even launched, at that very first announcement. Granted, that was just a demo and the new game hadn't even been announced yet, but at that point it was a pretty safe bet one was already at least in pre-production and that demo ignited in people the idea of what a Zelda game would be like on this new platform. Even before the game was officially announced, I'm sure that drove some sales of the Wii U, it probably sold a lot of units based on promised potential that never eventuated. I think its more than fair to be a bit pissed off at the bait and switch that was pulled.

It was always pretty clear that Zelda was going to spend a while in development. The early videos were only tech demos, and the fact that the first couple of years of the system's life passed without significant news on the Zelda front was indicative how much time they had actually put into it. By the time earnest development on the new Zelda had started, it was already pretty clear that the WiiU was a dying or dead system. Put yourself in the shoes of Nintendo management - there's a pretty strong case to be made for not releasing Zelda on WiiU at all. Apart from pissing off a lot of WiiU owners and getting some potentially bad press, they would have a real system seller on their hands with an exclusive Zelda title on Switch. Would you rather develop a killer app for your new system, or pump tens of millions in a lengthy development cycle for a failed system?

I personally think the WiiU has been a massive debacle for Nintendo, but I'm just being a realist when I say be happy that we're getting this title for WiiU. At the end of the day, Nintendo is a massive corporation. Loving or hating them seems kind of pointless. I'm just trying to be pragmatic when it comes to analysing their decisions, instead of just defaulting to angry internet person.

Khel - I don't understand how it was a bait and switch. You're still getting it on the system, just a few months later than you might have otherwise.

Nintendo continues to release products that will either fail miserably or succeed mediocrely.

Spoiler:
it does look pretty cool though

Yeah, I guess I'm just dirty at myself for buying into the Wii U hype in general, I'm actually not that huge of a Zelda fan anyway so it wasn't the make or break thing for me. Nintendo promised so much, and I was really excited by all the potential for the cool asymetrical gameplay possibilities, and then third party devs abandoned it and pretty much nobody ended up ever capitalising on that potential. The Nintendoland demos that came with the system are still the best examples of that sort of gameplay :(

Nice change of tone and argument. I agree, it's a very sensible move to release it with a new console. But saying "we're lucky to be even getting it on the WiiU" is some fanboi level s*** eating. But #2 it's BS on our end because it was hyped up that it will be on the WiiU, then delayed for the Switch. Remember Twilight Princess was a GC game originally. Skyward sword was Wii. Breath of the Wild was WiiU.

Hopefully Skyward Sword is playable on the Switch so I can kill 2 birds with one stone.
