Okay, so more of a prediction than rumour. And a bizarre one at that. But it's been making the rounds so we thought we'd throw it out there. Macquarie Capital Securities analyst Damian Thong, who predicted the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim -- is back with a new prediction! One that says Sony will release a PS5 before the end of 2018.
The prediction came as part of a report noting that Sony has shipped a whopping 60 million PS4s to date. Putting it on track to become one of the most successful home consoles of all time. Now, it's easy to point to that as a reason why Sony won't announce the PS5 at E3 this year ahead of a 2018 release. But if this PlayStation 5 talk turns out to be true, then this Damian Thong-th-thong-th-thong might just be the videogame world's first Nostradamus.
Which means we'd all have to get in line to ask him questions like "When are we getting the next proper Metroid Prime?", "What comes after VR, is it The Matrix?", and "When will the apocalypse happen extactly? Because I need to stock up on canned goods and waters."
