Kotaku,
Game Informer and IGN have reported from "multiple sources" that Nintendo will be announcing the successor to the Wii at E3 this year, with a likely release date of late 2012.
It will apparently be superior to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in terms of specifications, and is likely to be aimed at recapturing the core gamer audience.
Nintendo is already showing publishers the system in an effort to get them interested and allow them plenty of time to start developing titles in anticipation of the system's reported late 2012 launch. This advance support marks a change from when the Wii launched. At that time, several Western publishers were outright surprised by the announcement, and it affected the software support for the platform.
While it's not a new rumour, it's the first time we've seen it being simultaneously reported from numerous reputable sources. I hope it's true, because Nintendo have some fantastic franchises I'd like to see more of on a more capable console.

Could never get into the wii cause the graphics were just so s***, 90% of the games the characters are some s*** blob cartoon character.
Posted 10:59am 15/4/11
Well, the Gamecube produced noticeably better graphics than the PS2, and the Nintendo 64 was more capable than the PSX. The Wii was their only console to be at the back of the pack.

snes, n64 all the way
hopefully this new one will be on the same par as their previous releases (apart from the anus hole wii)

Apart from a few games, the Wii is plagued with s***.

And also, the Wii is a excellent piece of hardware, albeit a bit hard to program for, it's fantastic for what it is. Motion controlling done right, interesting games and mechanics made up to form around the motion controlling, and very very successful.

Until Microsoft and Sony announce their next consoles which will send it back to the bottom of the pack

I think what Eorl was saying is that Nintendo as a brand is stronger than ever, and that's largely thanks to the Wii. There may be a s***load of crappy games, but just about everyone has a Wii, even my parents.

The real problem is there's a lack of good games. The Wii has been out 4 years, and there's probably only 20 games I consider worth paying for.
Posted 12:01pm 15/4/11
Who buys more than 20 titles for a console?
Isn't the attach rate like 8 or something?

Just counted my XBox 360 games, I have 45 games for 360, but then I'm probably not the average consumer :P
Nowhere near as many for Wii and PS3, but still more than 8.

A lot of that has to do with the consoles capabilities though. It's a huge market and publishers want a piece of it but unlike PS3/360/PC you can't simply port a game across for the Wii but have to almost make a completely separate game because it's just not capable of handling the same size environments and such that the other platforms can.
Wonder if it will be capable of direct X 11 style graphics and come with Blu-ray. With some improvements to the Wii mote, it could make it a no-brainer for console choice if all the popular titles get properly ported across. The only problem being that it seems like it won't really be a next generation console but simply a best of this generation console and for this generation, most people already have bought one console or another.

lol holy s***. i only have 6 ps3 games. i only buy them if i cant get them for PC.
Posted 12:33pm 15/4/11
Probably haven't touched it for about 18 months now :(
Posted 12:40pm 15/4/11
Even the PS2 which has been out forever only has an attach rate of 10.

I think Nintendo should go back to the controller, this wireless lego stick business is crap, I play all my wii games with a controller, making movements to pass a ball in RL3 my ass.
Nintendo are basically the Handheld industry, so they s*** all over that department. More handheld/console interaction. Like pokemon stadium and the pokemon games fro game-boy/N64.
And release a Pokemon MMO already FFS.
Posted 01:28pm 15/4/11
but yes, agree 100% on goin back to controller, need a more sleek version of the n64/gamecude one.

A Pokemon MMO would be the smartest thing Nintendo could do. Look at the charts of the highest selling games of all time, and it's littered with Pokemon titles. Pokemon is f*****g huuuuuuuge.
I'd be all-f*****g-over a Pokemon MMO.

yeah. For every good game on the wii, there was 20 piss covered turds. Only 2 games I put more than a handful of hours into was the zelda game at launch, and then 1 of the Rune Factory games which I put about 98 hours into I think.
I'd say 80% of the games from every platform are crap.
The wii made more money than any console this generation, the figures speak, nintendo did well.

Posted 02:00pm 15/4/11
the wii was made the way it was because it came in half way through a generation of already popular consoles
they didn't spend billions trying to compete, they just put something out there to make sure people remember them
coming in now with a s*** hot console is a smart move, ps3 & xbox360 are getting towards the end of their lifecycles, nintendo are going to get in first with a replacement
Posted 02:19pm 15/4/11
Yeah, I've generally bought somewhere around 11 for most consoles. Original Gameboy I had a bit over 20, but then games for that were only $40, which as an 11 year old I could afford every now and then.
Pretty sure I had very close to 10-12 for SNES, N64 and Gamecube. Wii I've purchased bugger all - Zelda, WiiSports, WiiFit, Mario Kart, Metroid, Pikmin 2, Galaxy... that's all I can think of.
Posted 02:36pm 15/4/11
It would defintely be a console mmo, as Nintendo would not budge for one on pc. As they shutdown all the fan made ones. Pokemon MMo + DS interaction = win
On Topic:
100% with Teq, releasing the console as a "hey were still around" campaign. Now that Sony and Microsoft have said they want X amount of years before they release a new console has given Nintendo a incentive to be first in the new gen platform. Hopefully they actually think about it rather then put together some P.O.S just because.
Nintendo Puu?
Also Nintendo markets heavily towards younger children and families, hardcore gamers tend to stay away from Mario, Zelda and focus more on the "noob friendly FPS genre". Nintendo have been far superior imo.

Pokemon Kombat? Like MK9 but with anthropomorphic humans based on pokemon.
Pikachu chooses lightning fatality! It's super shocking!

If Nintendo can bring the sort of innovation to their next offering they did with the Wii, and it has some ponies under it's bonnet. They'll surely kill the competition.

funny you say that. there's a new pokemon manga out in japan where the humans turn into pokemon.
