Netflix is well known for its increasingly stellar performance in the TV show field, with original productions like House of Cards, Orange is the New Black or Arrested Development's season four all gracing the digital service. That however may soon be shadowed by what could only be described as the coolest idea ever: a live-action Legend of Zelda TV series.

The speculation begun thanks to Wall Street Journal, who state an anonymous source has tipped the series as currently in very early stages - the producers are at this time still looking for writers. The direction that they are rumoured to be taking the show in is "Game of Thrones for families," one I would be quite interested in seeing.

Of course as always with these kind of speculations you best take them with a grain of salt, considering Nintendo themselves have been wary of licensing out their IPs after the rather questionable titles of past. Mind you, I quite liked the 90's Super Mario Bros. movie thanks to its corny atmosphere.

As games.on.net points out, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata did mention in last year's briefing that the company is looking to expand character licensing into new territories, and this may just be that in action:
“[W]e will be flexible about forming licensing relationships in areas we did not license in the past, such as digital fields, provided we are not in direct competition and we can form win-win relationships.”
One thing is for sure, Zelda's universe is definitely not lacking in existing storylines so it won't be difficult for a TV adaptation. The question is, who would you like to see play Link?
