The RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise is making a proper return with RollerCoaster Tycoon World, which is in development on Windows PC at Pipeworks, publisher Atari Interactive announced this week.

Atari released the brief teaser trailer above to offer a sneak peek at RollerCoaster Tycoon World, although it's unclear if the glimpse at the theme park near the end of the clip is actual in-engine footage.

"Many of the new features in RollerCoaster Tycoon World were not possible a few years ago, but we have taken advantage of technological improvements to offer a wildly fun gaming experience that stays true to the storied franchise. This is the game fans have been asking for," said Fred Chesnais, CEO of Atari.

RollerCoaster Tycoon World is scheduled to be available in early 2015. Check out the trailer below for a glimpse at the action.

I'm cautiously excited for this. Any time "World" is used in a game title, it usually means online. The quote "Many of the new features in RollerCoaster Tycoon World were not possible a few years ago, but we have taken advantage of technological improvements" is giving me bad SimCity vibes.

I'm hoping I am wrong, between this and Scream Ride - Roller Coasters are back!

Make RCT2 with pretty 3D graphics, acquire currency.

If this is an online game they will not see a cent from me.
