If you're a fan of either renaissance art, giant balls, tower defense games or all of the above, then this one might be for you. Rock of Ages is the latest game from Chilean indie studio ACE Team, best known for the offbeat Zeno Clash.

James Cottee rolls said "Rock" through the requisite "Ages" for AusGamers today and you can find out his thoughts on the matter in this enlightened review.

Rock of Ages is now available on both Xbox Live for Xbox 360 and Steam for PC.

I was definitely intrigued by this game from the trailer, but already have so damn much to play one day, and was sort of expecting the novelty factor as you mentioned. Maybe another day...

I've had a totally different experience with Rock of Ages (playing on PC) all of it positive. I love this game and highly recommend it to anyone. I liked the added complexity of this compared to other tower defences. Saying that the maps really aren't that complex, within a turn you can tell where to put units. Also because of the 3d nature you use the terrain and the way it is laid out to your advantage. One other aspect I like is because you are racing, when you are both rolling there is a little window to show you where they other player is going.
When you place an object and it gets destroyed you can no longer place anything on that tile (or the tiles the unit needs), this makes you think on your feet for each additional roll. I love the larger maps it allows room to move but also experiment with different units and placement. I also think that its great that its hard to weave the rock around enemies, It's a Giant boulder not an f1 car. My only disappointment is its to easy, I haven't lost a single player mission, nearing the end of the game and within 3-4 turns I got gold on all the time trials I have done so far (which is almost all of them).
