With the eighth main installment in Capcom's seminal survival horror series set to make its debut on May, 2021 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC (via Steam). Plus, the game will also be getting a previous-gen release for the PS4 and Xbox One.
The announcement came via a Resident Evil showcase stream this morning, accompanied by a new cinematic trailer.
Resident Evil Village continues the story of Ethan Winters, first set in motion in Resident Evil 7. The latest entry combines pulse-pounding action with signature survival horror gameplay synonymous with the Resident Evil series.
Protagonist Ethan will now be able to purchase and sell items, buy recipes for crafting, and customize weapons with a merchant dubbed “The Duke.” Using materials found throughout the game, he will be able to craft invaluable consumables needed to survive the terrors of the village.
Utilizing these provisions will also involve more strategic planning, with a revised inventory system based on space management that may be familiar to series fans.
The showcase also featured some extended gameplay, highlighting the new setting and the first-person perspective as seen in Resident Evil 7. Plus, the inventory and resource management which hearkens back to the RE's of old. Watch the Resident Evil Showcase here.
Also, PlayStation 5 owners can download a Resident Evil Village demo called 'Maiden' which offers a sneak peak of the castle area. The demo is a standalone experience separate from the full game.
