With Resident Evil Village out next month, Capcom's latest foray into the world of survival horror is also set to bring back the arcade action of 'The Mercenaries'. A time-based mode all about racking up points and clearing stages, with this latest version bringing new features -- including a shop and abilities to unlock.
Here's Resident Evil Village game director Morimasa Sato running through the mode -- with gameplay clips showcasing the fast-paced nature of The Mercenaries.
First introduced in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, the mode has evolved over the years and in this incarnation looks to be a robust time-attack addition to the single-player campaign. With the addition of abilities to unlock, increasing your firepower or boosting movement speed adds a dose of rogue-lite-ness, which sounds very cool. Especially when it comes to the replayability factor. Interestingly (probably to avoid spoilers) 'The Mercenaries' will only become available once you complete the main story.
That said, we would love to see co-op added at some stage -- as fending off waves of nasties is always fun when in a group.
