With the debut trailer for the Resident Evil 3 remake arriving overnight as part of Sony's State of Play stream, showcasing updated visuals ala Capcom's impressive Resident Evile 2 remake from earlier this year. Originally released for the PlayStation in 1999, players will once again take on the roles of Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira.
Check it out.
Taking place a few months after the original Resident Evil ends, Resident Evil 3 takes place both before and after the events of Resident Evil 2. While Leon and Claire’s stories occur after the city has already been infected for some time, Jill’s story provides a new perspective. Starting with the early days of the outbreak, you’ll follow Jill’s fight for survival as the population of the once-lively metropolis turns into hordes of undead.
The camera as per the announcement will follow the updated over-the-shoulder style seen in the Resident Evil 2 remake, though the trailer looks to highlight some first-person escape-style sequences. Resident Evil 3 will see the return of Nemesis too, the main antagonist hell-bent on putting an end to Jill. As the story will see a few locations return from Resident Evil 2, odds are these will be versions from the Resident Evil 2 remake. The same level of detail is expected to return in this remake with "cutting-edge photogrammetry used to scan in actors and create true-to-life performances – that includes scanning in real people for the zombies".
Interestingly Resident Evil 3 will launch with Resident Evil Resistance - the 4v1 asymmetrical multiplayer co-op game revealed this year. Where survivors are pitted against a mastermind that sets traps and nasties as obstacles for them as they make their way to an exit.
Resident Evil 3 launches on PlayStation 4 on April 3, 2020. No word yet on other platforms though we should expect an Xbox One and PC release.
