With the updates also coming to the PC version. In terms of classic Resident Evil these are the recent remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, plus Resident Evil 7 biohazard. With all three titles running on Capcom's RE Engine, all three are set to be given a ray-traced makeover.

With Capcom citing "ray tracing, high frame rate, and 3D audio" as the focal points for the enhancements coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The publisher also notes that existing owners will get the updates for free. With PlayStation 5 owners also getting the benefit of DualSense support including Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Trigger action.

With the RE Engine already being an impressive bit of tech in how it can deliver impressive detail alongside rock-solid performance it'll be interesting to see how far Capcom pushes the engine in terms of ray-tracing and 60fps modes. Will it support stuff like reflections and shadows or just the latter?

With the shared tech between titles it's safe to assume that the upgrades will be uniform across all three titles -- with the updates themselves due to release sometime in 2022.
