Where it'll be free forever, that is
Remedy's first game developed for Apogee Software and 3D Realms back in the day --
Death Rally --
available now via Steam. The top down racer is no doubt a PC gaming classic, carving a more sinister slice of the same style of racing as
Blizzard's Rock N' Roll Racing on the SNES.
The announcement arrived via Twitter.
Although the 1996 visuals have dated some, back then the 2D visuals were fairly impressive -- kicking off what would be Remedy's reputation for visually impressive and engaging action. Albeit in the form of a top-down battle racer. Interestingly the studio's next game, which put it squarely on the map as a force to be reckoned with, didn't arrive until 2001 -- kicking off Remedy time. That is, the studio taking its time to craft polished and cutting edge action games. That 2001 game was Max Payne, which would lead to Alan Wake and more recently the brilliant
Control.
