Redfall is another big Xbox title on track for a 2023 release (first-half of the year) and we got a bit of extended gameplay at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase earlier today. From Arkane Austin, the studio behind the awesome Prey, this looks like the best bits of that plus Dishonored and Left 4 Dead all rolled up into an open-world action game where you're up against vampires.
Check it out.
Redfall has everything you could want from a cooperative, story-driven FPS experience, plus everything Arkane fans have come to expect from the studio. An open world packed with mystery, a diverse roster of heroes to choose from, strategic combat that will keep you on your toes, painstakingly crafted environments, a rich narrative driving you through the world, a wide array of weapons… and vampires. A lot of vampires. Sneaky vampires that grab you and separate you from your team. Hulking vampires capable of tearing you and your team to pieces. Godlike vampires powerful enough to eclipse the sun. Arkane vampires.
Playable solo or in co-op as part of a 4 person squad, players will choose their hero - who arrives on the scene with their own special abilities. Layla Ellison is "a biomedical engineering student who interned at a research facility" with telekinetic powers. Jacob Boyer is an ex-military sharpshooter - translation, he's got a sniper rifle. Remi de la Rosa is an engineer with a robot companion, and Devinder Crousley is an inventor who's armed with his own creations. All heroes will come with their own upgrade paths and the ability to hone in on different playstyles.
Although there are definite shades of Left 4 Dead style combat, the game will be fully playable solo and with a focus on Arkane-style stealth. “A huge emphasis for Redfall has been the solo experience, in keeping with Arkane’s passions,” explains Studio/Creative Director Harvey Smith. “Redfall is an open world game, but it can be soloed with any of the heroes. The pace becomes more exploratory; you can use recon and stealth to gather info on encounters and avoid enemies or get the drop on them.”
In addition to vampires that were created by "science experiments gone horribly wrong" there's also cultists to deal with - servants to the bloodsuckers. As an open-world game there's plenty of exploration too, “When not doing the main story missions, players can help Redfall by taking neighborhoods back from the vampires and the cultists who worship them,” adds Creative Director Ricardo Bare.
And with vampires there'll be plenty of weapons perfect for hunting creatures of the night, including a Stake Launcher and UV Beam.
Redfall is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, and as a part of Xbox Game Pass in 2023.
