Last year when
Rockstar released
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition it was met with widespread criticism due to several technical issues and some questionable upgrades to the visuals. At the time it was rumoured that the studio was also looking to remaster the original
Red Dead Redemption and
Grand Theft Auto 4. As of now it looks like those plans are off the table.
With
Kotaku, and known GTA leaker and insider Tez2, reporting that Rockstar won't be proceeding with these additional remasters. Instead, it will focus on the upcoming release of
Grand Theft Auto 6. Which has been confirmed to be in the works, but is probably still a while out from release.
According to the Kotaku report, which cites"sources with knowledge of Rockstar’s plans and future projects", GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption remasters aren't entirely “out of scope”. Though if they do come it will probably be after GTA 6 launches. Of the two, a Red Dead Redemption remaster would be of particularly high interest on the account of it not getting a PC release like its sequel.
