Razer has been using the Hammerhead name for a few years now for its line of portable in-ear headphones suited for mobile devices. The latest version to hit the market is the Hammerhead BT, where the BT stands for for Bluetooth. Wireless? Check. Great sound? Check. Affordable? Check. But still, a few issues.

The Razer Hammerhead BT comes equipped with custom-tuned 10mm drivers, which for an in-ear solution offers more than enough punch for crisp high-end detail and bass that doesn’t sound muffled or like it’s commandeering the entire sound. On paper all is impressive, but for those looking for a balanced sound might be disappointed. What you get with the Hammerhead BT is an effect that essentially boosts or raises the output of both bass and treble. Thanks to quality drivers the effect isn’t artificial or distorted, but you get the sense that Razer are looking to compete with offerings by Beats or Skullcandy in the sound department. In terms of mobile gaming the reasoning makes sense, as it does if you were to predominantly listen to electronic or more pop-style music.
