During the big PlayStation 5reveal event in June, Insomniac Games was on hand to with two big guns -- one being Spider-Man and the other Ratchet & Clank. With the PlayStation 5 exclusive Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, we see first-hand the effects of the PS5's near instantaneous loading and high-end tech that will deliver increased detail, better lighting, and cutting-edge featured like ray-traced reflections.
As part of Gamescom's Opening Night Live presentation we now have an extended bit of gameplay from Sony that is nothing short of impressive. A technical showcase for the new console that also happens to look like a blast.
In the 7-minute plus demo we get to see Ratchet & Clank use rifts and tears in dimensional space to shift from highly detailed world to world in a matter of milliseconds, but not only that we see large objects and huge real-time events happen with the sort of pace and spectacle befitting a animated cinematic spectacle.
The sheer number of on-screen particles in the action feels a tad overdone, almost "hey look what we can do" but in the hyper-realised world of Ratchet & Clank it makes sense. With animation, texture and model quality, ray-tracing, lighting, and other elements all at that same level -- Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is something would be just-about impossible to pull off on current-gen PS4 hardware.
Also, it'll be out relatively soon too with Sony and Insomniac confirming that it will be out sometime during the "PS5 launch window".
