After teasing something last week and a retail listing by Walmart Canada spoiling the surprise, Bethesda has officially announced the existence of Rage 2. With a live-action teaser promising a look at gameplay sometime tomorrow or later tonight. Perhaps most surprising is the studio behind the sequel.

Because it looks like id Software is not behind the sequel to Rage. As per the fine print on the official site hosting the teaser, Rage 2 is being "Developed in association with Avalanche Studios".

Dive headfirst into a dystopian world devoid of society, law, and order. RAGE 2 brings together a true open world FPS experience where you can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything.

For those that recall Rage was in development for several years, and was the final game shipped from id with John Carmack at the helm. So the question is, will it be using id Tech 6 as its engine or Avalanche Studio own Avalanche Engine? We'd probably guess the latter as the open-worlds of both Just Cause and Mad Max proved that Avalanche Studios are more than up to the task.

Naturally, we're pretty excited to see actual gameplay footage of Rage 2 - so stay tuned.
