Publisher Bethesda has outlined the
special events schedule for QuakeCon 2014, the annual Dallas, Texas LAN tournament and public videogame convention that it inherited when it acquired id Software five years ago.
The highlights of the schedule appear to be the DOOM reveal on July 17 (which will supposedly be exclusive to event attendees and not broadcast online), and The Future of The Elder Scrolls Online panel on July 18, which will be
broadcasted on Twitch and presumably involve the recently launched MMO's developers outlining more of their post launch vision for the game.
This year's event will prominently feature upcoming Bethesda-published titles The Evil Within and Battlecry which attendees will be able to get hands on time with, and of course, it's still North America's largest LAN tournament, with id Software's Quake Live being the central eSports title of the event.
Notably absent from this year's event is the usual keynote speech from iconic programmer John Carmack, who parted ways with id Sofware late last year. Although Carmack had expressed interest in continuing the annual tradition -- having said "If they don't want me to talk on stage at Quakecon next year, we'll just have to fill up the lobby like the old days" -- the legal tussle between Zenimax Media and his new employer in the now Facebook-owned Oculus presumably threw a cold bucket of water on that possibility.

He simply knows too much about everything. Light physics, engines, the gaming scene, low level hardware and code. He has everything needed to make good products. Sure, an awesome level designer can make an awesome level, but they mightn't have the technical ability to work out why the level isn't running properly, why the game sits on 20fps sometimes, etc.
Carmack is the game engine/hardware Gaben.
