Kicking off QuakeCon at Home comes the announcement that the original Quake -- now celebrating its 25th anniversary -- is now available in an Enhanced Edition on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch as well as joining Xbox Game Pass. This re-release comes with the original expansion packs plus two developed by MachineGames. One of them being brand-new.
Called “Dimension of the Machine” it arrives as a new slice of action for the classic id shooter. In terms of enhanced bits this new version supports widescreen, up to a 4K resolution, enhanced models, dynamic lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field effects, and a remastered soundtrack. Which is great news because Quake's soundtrack was composed by none other than Trent Reznor.
Check it out.
The campaign and expansions are now easily playable both online and in split-screen, with deathmatch coming in 8-player online of 4-player local flavour. And in a nice touch, cross-play is supported. Though it'd be hard to see how playing with a controller could stack up against the ol' keyboard and mouse combo.
Native Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions supporting 4K 120-fps will be available soon (as a free upgrade to boot).
