One of the many questions I still had reeling in my head after our lengthy interview with Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard, revolved around relationships in the world of Skyrim.

Now, Bethesda PR and Marketing boss, Pete "Beefcake" Hines, has revealed via Twitter that you'll be able to marry within the game-world, and that it won't matter what sex you are, and so same-sex marriage is, indeed, finally legit... at least in a fantasy world.

"Not hush hush, just not making a huge deal out of it. You can marry anyone," he wrote before adding "Sorry, should clarify. Not any NPC, just mean any male or female. Doesn't matter what you're playing.

It's not known if these will be meaningful relationships ala Mass Effect or mostly arbitrary ala Fables 2 and 3.

I think it's more about player-choice, as much as it is about lifestyle-choice :)

Good on them (though they're definitely not the first)

The thread on SA about this game would be pushing 100% gay atm with talk of this 'feature'.

khajits are pretty much the asian race so not only can you match your real life fantasy of having an asian girlfriend you can match your real life furry fantasies as well.

Meanwhile, on-topic - relationships on the whole in Skyrim - what would you prefer to see? Because I don't want to just marry someone in the game and have no real connection to them. It's hard given the sheer size of the game, but if they have specific quests that can build a genuine relationship between you and the character, I'll be happy

Hopefully it would be little more elaborate then Fable. Perhaps if you don't look after them and visit they'll get the s**** and start looking elsewhere for companionship. Then you have to find out what is happening and you can deal with it nicely or not.

Or you could take them on quests with you and get bonuses for various stuff, access to different places that grows as the relationship builds, giving you a good reason to visit ;D

It does seem like the kind of feature which likely won't have any real depth, and will come off as more awkward for it, but time will tell. Maybe it'll be similar to the estate building options in morrowind, which were awesome, I mean who doesn't want a multi-stage-upgrade estate in a world of untold treasure, cultural conflicts, and questionable workers' rights?

I think what you meant was:

"It's not known if these will be meaningful relationships ala Mass Effect or mostly arbitrary ala real life."

Also, in your thread title you should replace "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" with

Scrolls

Since everyone knows that word totally means elder scrolls series.

To not be meaningless there should be a series of quests around it. Perhaps he/she gets kidnapped at some point and you have to perform a rescue.

It would be good if there was a bit of an arc around it. Still, it's not exactly a huge part of the game I wouldn't think so I'm not expecting much.

Come to think of it, Quest for Glory V had a slightly different approach to both Fable and Bioware, where there were several major characters throughout the world and you could choose to romance one of them - sorta like how there were the several estates in morrowind, but you can only choose one. Or... like... the choice of bulbasaur, charmander, or squirtle...

Which is retarded. No elder scrolls fan calls the game 'scrolls'. Maybe an elder scrolls newb would. Anyone who plays the game refers to them by the bit that comes after the colon (Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and then finally Skyrim). I never played the first one and don't recall what that was referred as.

Arena, but yeah everybody calls it by its iteration title or TES. Somebody on Bethesda's end is being very silly, giving Notch a huge amount of advertising too.

Obviously this new feature will go hand in hand with adult mods that the modders make. So be prepared to see more sex animations and texture tweaking lol.

I have never ever heard those games as described as anything other than fpot says (I have never played any of them). In fact the first time I heard them described as "The Elder Scrolls X" I was like, "what the hell are you talking about?"

Even if they don't win it just gives them legal protection in case someone later on tries to use the word "Scrolls" for something else similar. They are showing they are prepared to fight every legal battle no matter how silly just so they can later defend the actual serious ones.

But like you said, everyone calls them Skyrim(job) Morrowwind etc.

What connection can you have between a mute and a two line wonder.

(have you spoken to any NPC's before? Any without a side quest you're likely to have a conversation revolving around two sentences, where you won't speak to either).

Marriage? What a f*****g joke.

When my Nordic warrior comes home from a hard day of slaying everything in sight, he wants to sit on a throne of solid gold surrounded by scantly clad women lazing around pools and rubbing oil on each other.

I like it how it's a "feature" and not a "We couldn't be bothered creating dialogue that identifies different sexes so regardless of what character you are playing it's all the same".

I guess calling it a feature is easier.
