Developer Insomniac is describing Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart as a showpiece game for the PlayStation 5 -- taking full advantage of the console's next-gen features. From real-time ray-tracing to instantaneous loading through to DualSense integration, the exclusive title is now on track for release on June 11, 2021.
To celebrate the announcement we've got the following new teaser trailer, which highlights just how good it looks running on PS5 hardware.
When the evil Dr. Nefarious uses a device that can access alternate dimensions to find a galaxy where he always wins, Ratchet and Clank are separated. As they try to re-unite, they will meet a new Lombax resistance fighter, explore new and familiar locales (but with new dimensional twists!), and wield a whole new arsenal of out of this world weapons.
As per above, dimension hopping (which happens seamlessly thanks to the PS5's new high-speed storage) is baked into the story, with Insomniac also noting that the new title is stand-alone so you won't need to have played older titles in the series to enjoy the ride.
Though there will be plenty of goodies for fans too, including a pre-order bonus of "Carbonox armor from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (2003)" in all its reflective glory. A Digital Deluxe Edition is also available via the PlayStation Store which will include additional armor sets, in-game items, and digital bonuses.
With the release coming up soon we should expect to see and hear more about the latest Ratchet & Clank in the weeks and months ahead.
GAME TRIVIA - Did You Know?
In 2002 a man from Banbury, Oxfordshire in the UK legally changed his name to PlayStation 2 at the age 29. He joked to UK tabloid rag, The Mirror, that he loved his PS2 so much he asked two vicors if they'd do the honours in terms of facilitating a marriage between man and console, however, he told the tabloid they "didn't seem keen".
