Project Spark, the colourful sandbox title with a heavy focus on user-generated content from Microsoft's team of developers, has been confirmed to not require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play.

The news has come from a recent Reddit thread (via Joystiq) where community manager Mike Lescault confirmed that "you do not need an Xbox Live Gold account to play Project Spark." Asked whether this exception was meant only for Windows 8 players and that those on Xbox 360 and Xbox One would still require a subscription, Lescault re-confirmed that "you will not need a gold subscription to play Project Spark for free on any platform."

Those looking forward to the Kodu-styled game will be able to get their hands on it later this month, when the PC beta is expected to launch. Those awaiting their Xbox One beta will be looking forward to a January beta launch.
