With Ubisoft bringing back the pre-Assassin's Creed era action-adventure Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in remake form. Originally released in 2003, this is set to debut January 21, 2021 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC and has been built from the ground-up using Ubi's Anvil game engine. The same one that powers Prince's successor, the raspberry buffet of stealth that is Assassin's Creed.

From a visual perspective it retains the look and feel of the original (with less Bloom lighting), though it's curious that next-gen versions weren't announced -- maybe this was originally due for an earlier 2020 release.

Check it out.

Relive the Prince’s journey for redemption after unwittingly releasing the Sands of Time on the Sultan’s Kingdom. As with the original, players will embody the heroic Prince alongside the daughter of the Maharaja, Princess Farah as they navigate the palace, battle sword-wielding enemies, maneuver trap-filled rooms and ultimately confront the evil Vizier, who controls the Sands of Time. Players continue to progress as they combat enemies and master the art of parkour. Yuri Lowenthal returns, reprising his role as the Prince’s original voice and motion capture actor and players will be introduced to actress Supinder Wraich, who now plays the role of Farah.

As a nice little bonus Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake also includes a copy of the original 1989 Prince of Persia - very cool. Plus, a filter that will allow players to change the visuals to look more like the original Sands of Time release. Which, as per above, is probably turning on and cranking up the Bloom lighting.

Ubisoft is noting that this remake will feature "a fresh approach to combat, puzzle solving and rewinding time" in addition to "new camera angles and fully remade sequences". Although it has been a minute since we've played the original, it's definitely a classic and something that has, well, stood the test of time. The time-bending mechanics were great back in the day, so this rewind and revisit to the past is something we're looking forward to.
