Last week we mentioned Valve's Doug Lombardi said in an interview that the first batch of downloadable content (DLC) for Portal 2 was potentially coming just in time for winter here in Australia, and over the weekend this was officially confirmed by the developer.
Portal 2 DLC #1 will offer new test chambers for players, leaderboards, challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes, and more.
Many of you speculated that because said DLC was coming from Valve, it would most likely be free, which they happily confirmed for you, stating that it would be free of charge across PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Mac.

Now if only other developers/publishers would follow suit.

Valve should team up with Unbeatable Banzuke to form the ultimate obstacle course.

Indeed - DLC should be used to promote further sales of the game, not milk more money from existing customers.

Theres been free DLC on XBox before, Burnout Paradise had a TONNE of free DLC and Red Dead Redemption had some free DLC, so its not like Microsoft force people to charge for DLC.

Yeah but Valve has had trouble in the past with L4D DLC having to be paid for. Wonder what they did this time round.

Maybe they just told people they had trouble so they could get away with charging for it :P

Maybe it's a case of bad publicity? Offering DLC at a premium shortly after the game has been released seems like a fail kinda move.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that Valve were adopting a similar approach to Team Meat's approach in the XBLA version of Super Meat Boy.
