The very popular Pokemon series has today grown in number with the worldwide launch of two new sequels, Pokemon X and Pokemon Y for Nintendo 3DS and the very new Nintendo 2DS.
One of the biggest changes to the franchise comes in the form of full 3D graphics, a change from the nostalgic top-down style that has been a common occurence for the many previous generations.
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y feature a wide array of new and returning Pokémon to catch, battle and trade. Players will be introduced to a new generation of Pokémon, including three new Pokémon to choose from at the beginning of the game – the Grass-type Chespin, Fire-type Fennekin and Water-type Froakie – and epic Legendary Pokémon. Pokémon X presents the majestic and mysterious Xerneas, while Pokémon Y features the strong and powerful Yveltal. In addition to the new Pokémon, hundreds of past favorites from previous generations are brought to life with detailed graphics and animations. Players will also be given the choice to receive Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle – classic Pokémon from the very first games in the series, Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version. Pokémon X and Pokémon Y also introduce the Fairy type, the first new Pokémon type since Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver, adding a whole new layer of strategy to battles.
It isn't just a new set of Pokemon that are launching today either, with Nintendo's newest 2DS handheld now available. The new handheld is in the same family as the 3DS, however without the obvious 3D glassless effect and clam-like design.
The new handheld ranges in two colours, flame red or blue, and will be available for a rough pricing of $148 from the usual stores. Check out the live action launch trailer below for Pokemon X and Pokemon Y and ensure you catch them all.
