More than 10 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold worldwide, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president and CEO Jim Ryan announced at Sony's Gamescom press conference early yesterday morning.
Ryan specified that that number represented "10 million PS4s sold through to consumers," putting it far ahead Microsoft's Xbox One sales which are somewhere near the 5 million mark.
Sony announced in April it had sold through 7 million PS4 consoles. The company has been providing regular sales updates on the system since its launch in North America last November, when the PlayStation 4 sold more than 1 million units on release day.
