Yeah, that's a lot of console-y goodness. And a very impressive number too, with Sony's PlayStation 4 selling through 5.9 million units during the 2017 holiday period. Which brings the year end total lifetime sales of the console to 73.6 million units globally as of December 31, 2017.

With Microsoft no longer reporting on sales numbers for Xbox One hardware, we can only go by current estimations that indicate lifetime PS4 sales sit at around double that of Xbox One. In other impressive numbers 55.9 million PS4 games were sold during the 2017 holiday season in retail stores, which means non-digital to those of us who refuse to go "outside".

Showing no sings of slowing down, rumours of an imminent PS5 announcement might be a bit premature. Still, we wouldn't be surprised if we saw the next PlayStation console in 2019.
