But it looks like HDR patches for most titles won't be ready until the PS4 Pro drops. Exactly how this works using HDMI 1.4 is anyone's guess. The new 4.0 update for the PlayStation 4 does feature a bunch of other stuff too, like an overhauled UI to make things cleaner and easier to find. Plus folders, and new ways to interact.
With 4K and HDR the HDMI version needs to be 2.0a I believe. With standard BluRay and 1080p being the old 1.4 I think. Apparently the only way to get HDR on something, due to the higher bandwidth was to have HDMI 2.0. Which is a hardware issue. And the reason I believe that the Xbox One S has HDR support and the old one doesn't. So I'm not sure how this works exactly and haven't seen any details anywhere.
HDMI 1.4 can do 4K at 24fps but you need HDMI 2.0 to do up to 60fps and HDR. the original PS4 HDMI controller was rumoured to be 2.0 compatible and this HDR update proves that rumour was true.
