Publisher Sony Online Entertainment has today announced that two of their larger MMOs, both Planetside 2 and DC Universe Online, are going to be coming to the PlayStation 4 sometime after the console's launch.
According to the initial report from IGN, both titles will be getting the digital treatment, although Sony Online Entertainment is keeping the release date close to their hands, simply saying that "the PS4 versions will be available as free-to-play digital downloads this year."
Currently the MMOFPS Planetside 2 is only available on PC, however SOE's John Smedley has tweeted that the the PlayStation 4's version "is going to yield a faster PC version.. much better at multicore support" which is great news for everyone. In regards to cross-platform support, Smedley separately tweeted that PC players will sadly be unable to play against their PlayStation 4 console friends, however did ensure that those playing DC Universe Online on the PlayStation 4 will "be playing on the same servers as the PS3 players."
Interestingly Smedley also praised the PlayStation 4's architecture when asked by a follower, stating that he is "excited to have a stable platform that will be there for years that has 8 gig of memory and a super fast processor and gfx." Hopefully we'll see more of SoE's future projects being ported over to the console to help strengthen its library.
