Okay so the horse racing is part of Mario Sports Superstars which features fully developed versions of soccer, tennis, golf, baseball, and for some reason horse racing. As part of the company's recent Nintendo 3DS-themed Direct presentation, the company highlighted some of the titles headed to the handheld next year. Included in the reveals was a new, interesting, Pikmin side-scroller, plus a handheld version of Mario Maker.

And with the ability to share courses locally via Street Pass and through peer-to-peer connections, Mario Maker looks like a perfect fit for the handheld. And thanks to the dual screen action and touch pad, and almost like-for-like replication of the Wii U hit.

Next up is Pikmin, which looks to translate the quasi-open world mechanics of the series to fit the styling of an action-packed puzzle-platformer. And before you can say, "Hmm, I'm not sure that would...", it works.

Finally, Mario Sports makes a return to the handheld space with Mario Sports Superstars. A compendium of a number of sports games in one neat little package that will also feature both local and online multiplayer. For the most part these are not mini-games, as the soccer features full 11v11 action. But yeah, the horse racing does seem like the odd one out. Although if there are a number of courses, power-ups, and such, it could be a very cool Mario Kart alternative.

All good stuff for sure, but now we go back to waiting for the inevitable Nintendo NX reveal.

I wish they'd just develop their own IPs for other consoles and platforms, not specifically the way of SEGA -- but I would just really love to play some of their key franchises off their own tech. I love 3DS, but I'm so worried about NX
