Microsoft is powering full steam ahead on promotion for the upcoming Xbox One console, and
like AusGamers, other PC-founded publications are using the press interview opportunities to probe on the company's plans for videogaming on Windows.
Over the Xbox 360 generation, Microsoft's first-party publishing on the Windows PC platform had become incredibly sparse, but recent comments suggest that could be changing following the launch of Xbox One.
Speaking with
Shacknews at an Xbox One showcase event in London, Microsoft Studios VP Phil Spencer reportedly said "I think it's fair to say that we've lost our way a bit in supporting Windows games. But we're back."
"At the launch of Windows 8, we had about 30 games in the Windows Store. A lot of those you'd consider lightweight or casual games... But we've covered all of that property now. Now we're starting to look at bigger and core gamer things. I'm excited by that."
...
"Let's start to act like a true first-party across all these devices. A service like Xbox Live that knows me and my content and my friends and achievements across all these devices. I think that's an advantage for us."
...
"For us, we're first-party across all Microsoft devices. We definitely think about ourselves that way in our studios. If you think about a service like Spotify or Netflix, you expect that service to work on any device you have. For some games, it will be similar. I just want to have an Xbox Live account and it works on my phone, on my console, and my Windows machine. And then I'll be able to access my content in a screen-appropriate way."
We've previously postulated that with the DRM'd garden of the Windows 8 store in effect, and the architechtural similarities of the Xbox One to modern gaming PCs, Microsoft would be well-placed to make pretty much any Xbox One game available to Windows 8 users, Kinect and all. Whether that's how it will play out, we'll just to wait and see.

I mean, that would be a real wake-up call to most of the gaming population out there I think.
Then again, the muppets would probably cheer for it... Such is the state of gaming today...
