Mainly because prior to today's Nintendo Direct the only word we got from the Big N prior to the broadcast was that the focus would primarily be on the upcoming multiplayer games, Splatoon 2 and ARMS. And hey, it's good to be wrong. After the reminder that later this month every Switch owner will purchase their second game for the console thanks to the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came a number of cool game announcements for 2017.
Like the aforementioned Payday 2, which will be getting a Nintendo Switch release this year. No real details were provided on whether or not the Switch version will differ in any way or provide local multiplayer support with multiple Switch units -- but you'd hope that was on the cards.
In addition to Payday 2, THQ Nordic offered up two new games heading to the console this year with Sine Mora EX and the very cool looking BattleChasers: Nightwar. Also announced was a version of Monopoly, strangely, and more Neo-Geo arcade classics and even some from Namco as part of the upcoming Namco Museum. Both of those announcements make up for the lack of any concrete Virtual Console info, which at this stage we should expect to hear more about at E3 ahead of the launch of Nintendo's premium online service.
