Team composition in competitive Overwatch has seen a shift towards three tank heroes and three healers in what has been dubbed the GOATS meta. And with heroes like D.Va, Zarya, Reinhardt, Moira, Lúcio and Brigitte taking the spotlight, it's led to a style of play that is all but impossible to counter. Well, until now.

With Blizzard implementing a major change to the game via Role Queue and Role Lock for Stage 4 of the Overwatch League, future Overwatch esports, and in-game Competitive play. Which, will force teams into a 2-2-2 composition - two tanks, two support, and two damage dealers. Available to test out right now via the Overwatch PTR on PC, players choose what role they want to play and get grouped or matchmaked according to preference. Each role will have its own queue and also its own Competitive Play ranking.

In order to make sure it all works a Role Queue Beta Season will run for a few weeks before going live. For more info on that - head here.

In relation to the change Blizzard has apaprently been working on this major update for over a year now to "ensure Overwatch matches continue to be fair and fun well into the future, and create an environment that fosters teamwork and encourages players to bring their very best to every match". In the latest Developer Update video, Game Director Jeff Kaplan dives into the reasoning, and is well worth a watch.

No doubt this will interesting to see, and right around the corner too - with Overwatch League Stage 4 matches kicking off next week.
