Affectionately called the 'Duke', the original controller for the original Xbox is often remembered for how comically large it was. And not for, you know, being some sort of design masterpiece. It was so large that Microsoft had to create a separate smaller controller for the Japanese market. And adhere to a racial stereotype on purpose. Because of how big the Duke was. And now it's coming back.
Thanks to popular demand, or a bunch of people on the internet merely thinking it would be funny, Microsoft is planning on releasing a special edition Duke controller that will be compatible with both Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One consoles. To put that into perspective, sitting next to an Xbox One X you'd probably only notice the Duke.
Although still comically huge, the logo has been replaced by an OLED screen that plays the original Xbox console startup sequence.
In a fun bit of history, Seamus Blackley, one of the original Xbox designers notes that the whole reason the controller ended up being so big was that the company behind the Xbox controller circuit board made them way too big.
Pre-orders are expected to begin soon.
