In the trailer that made its debut moments ago at The Game Awards, Obsidian's new sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds is presented as the new game from the original creators of Fallout and the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas. It's worth keeping this bit of information in mind, because everything we see looks like a Fallout-style futuristic sci-fi with a heavy Western influence.
Yeah. pull up a chair and drink it in.
In The Outer Worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.
Although Obsidian is now a Microsoft Studio, The Outer Worlds pre-dates the deal and is still being published by Take-Two's Private Division and will be out for Xbox One, PC, and PS4. No release date or window was given but everything in the trailer looks to be running in real-time, and the first-person perspective and facing NPCs directly hints at a Fallout-style conversation system. Also the action looks to be real-time and fluid which adds a Borderlands vibe. We'll be following this one closely and will bring you more information as we get it.
